Thank you for volunteering for the Connecticut Mission of Mercy (CTMOM). The generosity of your time and talents, and your dedication and support will provide an invaluable service to the underserved, uninsured and working poor in our state. Below is some general information to help you prepare for the event.

Parking
Parking for volunteers will be in the covered parking garage at Aetna. Parking attendants will direct you to the lot. You will receive a parking pass by e-mail. Please print this parking pass and place on your rear view mirror or on your dashboard. You will need this pass to be able to park in the volunteer lot.

CTMOM Hours
This year, start times will vary depending on the area you are assigned to.
Here is a general list of the start times for Friday, March 12th and Saturday, 13th:
- 5:00 am. – All Central Steering Committee members and leads, volunteer registration, food service
- 5:30 am – parking attendants, patient registration, line walkers
- 6:00 am – Triage staff - (Dentists, Dental assistants, Physicians, Physician assistants, Nurses, Nursing assistants, Nursing students, Translators, ½ of the escorts, runners, Dental equipment Technicians, Pre-med pharmacy)
- 6:30 am - Sterilization, lab, Central supply, Radiology, Daycare
- 7:00 am – All others including Restorative, Pedo, Endo, Oral surgery, Hygiene, Prosthetics, Post surgical pharmacy, remaining escorts
Set-up day, Thursday, March 11th – Set up time is 8:00 am until approx. 5:00 p.m.
Break-down day, Sunday, March 14th – Breakdown time is 8:00 a.m. until we are done approx. 2:00 p.m.
Please note: You will be contacted by your team leader regarding your department’s start time.
Hotel Accomodations
If you require lodging, please call Crowne Plaza in Cromwell to make your reservation. We have secured a block of rooms. Please tell them you are with the Mission of Mercy group. Reservations must be made by Feb. 21th to receive this rate.

Reservation Procedures:
The Crowne Plaza Cromwell is pleased to offer the use of on-line group reservations system. To make your reservations online, please click on the following link: CTMOM Crowne Plaza Reservation
Reservations can also be made by calling 888-233-9527 or 843-760-5839. Reservations must be made on or before the cut-off date of February 21, 2010 in order to be eligible for the group rate. All rooms must be guaranteed by credit card or advance deposit.
Check in anytime after 3:00 p.m. and check out time by 12:00 p.m.
CTMOM Lead Coordinators
Throughout the clinic, CTMOM Lead Coordinators are assigned to each area and are available to help. These Leads will be wearing CTMOM hats and most will have radios, and can readily communicate with other areas of the clinic.
What to expect
CTMOM expects to treat 2000 patients in the 2 day clinic. The clinic will have approx. 100 portable dental chairs, lights and units. The chairs will recline and the units will have access to water and suction.
The clinic is divided into several areas: Medical and Dental Triage, Radiology, Hygiene, Restorative, Pediatrics, Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Prosthetics, Pharmacy.
There is a volunteer lounge available for breaks. This lounge is located on the lower level. Breakfast and lunch will be provided in this area as well as snacks and beverages all day long at no cost. Massage Therapists will be available in the lounge area to provide free massages to any volunteer.
There are lockers available in the locker room area of the lounge. Please bring a padlock to secure your belongings. Although there is an ample supply of lockers, due to the hundreds of volunteers attending, please consider sharing a locker with a friend or co-worker.
What to wear
Dress is casual – everything from scrubs to shorts – whatever is most comfortable for you. Remember to wear comfortable and supportive closed toe shoes!
All volunteers will be given a CTMOM t-shirt and are encouraged to wear it during the clinic.
Information for Dental Volunteers
Dental instruments and supplies
The following is a list of items to bring with you to CTMOM. The CTMOM clinic will have portable dental units that include a patient chair, free standing light, and operative unit connected to water and vacuum lines. CTMOM will also have instruments and dental supplies available. While these items are available for your use, please bring the items listed below if you have them. A list of disposable items that will be provided is also included. Consider purchasing a plastic container with a lid to store and transport your instruments. Don’t forget to write your name on your container.
If you will be in town on Thursday afternoon (March 11th), please bring your doctor and assistant stools to the Aetna Building, 1000 Middle Street, Middletown, so we can set-up your area for you.
DENTISTS
- Bring any special equipment you may need (headlights, magnifying eyewear, etc.). BE SURE THEY ARE MARKED PROPERLY WITH YOUR IDENTIFICATION.
- Please bring curing lights and hand pieces that you will be using. We will have hand pieces available for your use, but they may be different from what you are accustomed to.
- Please bring your dental and assistant chairs if you do “sit-down” dentistry. We will have some chairs but we strongly encourage you to bring your own for maximum comfort.
- Lastly, please bring your DEA number for prescription writing purposes and a copy of your current license. We will have CTMOM prescription forms available however we encourage you to bring your own prescription pads.

- Burs – Only if you have a favorite
- Curing lights
- Doctor and assistant stools
- DEA number and copy of your current license
HYGIENISTS
- Set ups will be provided but if you so desire, bring your favorites: scalers, cavitron inserts and cavitron units. BRING ANYTHING THAT YOU LOVE TO USE TO MAKE YOUR TIME EASIER. If you use any special equipment, bring it along for your use (headlights, curing lights, etc.). BE SURE TO MARK ALL OF YOUR INSTRUMENTS WITH YOUR IDENTIFICATION.
- If possible, bring your hygiene chair for your sit-down work with patients.
- Lastly, please bring a copy of your current license.
