Lecture Title: "Demystifying Orofacial Pain & Temporomandibular Disorders for the General Dental Practice"
Introduction:
Dr. Seema Kurup is an Associate Professor in the Division of Oral Medicine, Orofacial Pain, & TMD) at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. She serves as Course Director for Oral Medicine, OFP, & TMD courses at the School of Dental Medicine and the Dental Hygienists at Tunxis Community College. Dr. Kurup is the Chair of the Mentorship Committee of the AAOP and holds Dual Fellowships of the AAOP and the American Academy of Oral Medicine. She has published extensively and is a peer reviewer for 10 scientific journals. Dr. Kurup’s research interests are in chronic pain conditions such as TMD, Orofacial Pain Management and Oral Mucosal Conditions. She is a co-investigator in a UO1 NIDCR funded study on TMD. In her clinical practice, besides treating OFP and TMD patients, she provides oral appliance therapy for sleep apnea patients. Dr. Kurup is a Subject Matter Expert in the CT DPH- funded School of Dental Medicine initiative to educate and train dental providers in the state in orofacial pain management.
